I am from the East Bay of California and Enrique is from Guadalajara, Mexico. In 2001 I travelled throughout Mexico, and one of my stops was in Sayulita. On the beach is where I met my future husband, Enrique.
He moved to Berkeley with me, and that is where we started our future together. November 9th, 2002 we married in Sayulita on the beach in the Las Gemelas complex.
Later we moved to Santa Cruz, CA, and that is where we welcomed our first (and only) daughter, Serena.
Although Santa Cruz is a great place to live and raise a family, I really wanted something different. I had a vision of how I wanted to spend my life, and working full time, sending my kid to daycare, scrambling to make mortgage payments, and being in debt for the rest of my life wasn’t one of them. I turned 30, had a wonderful husband and an amazing daughter- I wanted to live my life to the fullest and build a new kind of life with my family. So we packed it up and sold everything and headed to Sayulita. Having a family that is established made it possible for us, and we are very fortunate for that. Our plan when we got to Sayulita was to open a Thai restaurant, which is what we did. It was a wonderful little restaurant on the north side of town called “El Thai”, and it was an incredible experience for us. The only challenging issue was that we were working from 10am to 1am, and spent little time enjoying our daughter and the place we live- which was our main purpose of moving to Mexico. After 2 seasons, we found our niche. Starting with a few little trail weddings, we found that sharing our experience and love was exactly what we wanted to do. Not really expecting that was what I was going to end up doing, we ended up with 30 something weddings in the first season. 4 years later, we have made a successful, intimate, and exciting business for ourselves, and it keeps growing. Along with weddings, we do property management and Enrique has a boat, which he does surfing and fishing expeditions with. Juggling all of these things, we have found the perfect life for ourselves and our family and look forward showing the magical wonders that surround our little town!
